Three new Zika cases take Pune patient count to 24 “One of the patients who tested positive on Wednesday is a 27-year-old woman from Kothrud. She had been experiencing symptoms like fever, rash and joint pain since July 6. Her condition is stable now,” the official added. The case in Lohegaon involves a 49-year-old man. The infection was detected after he visited a city hospital for angioplasty — a procedure to restore blood flow through an artery. “When patients scheduled for surgery display symptoms like fever, the procedure is postponed. This seems to be an incidental finding as the hospital concerned had sent his blood sample to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) following which the report came positive for Zika,” the official added. The third case, reported from Sahakarnagar, is of a 14-year-old girl who has been suffering from fever, rash and headache since July 8. “None of the patients have recent travel history, suggesting local transmission of the virus. We are visiting the patients and their localities to implement Zika containment measures. This includes monitoring pregnant women and intensifying fogging activities at potential mosquito breeding spots,” the official said, adding that of the total 24 patients in Pune city, 10 are pregnant.
